Tiled roofs

Tiles are the most common roofing material used in this country and come in two main types – clay roofing tiles and concrete roofing tiles. When compared to other roofing options, both clay and concrete tiles generally share the same advantages and disadvantages, with some slight differences.

Tiles come in a wide variety of colours and styles, from traditional to ultra-modern, and you will have no difficulty in selecting a suitable tile to compliment your building.

Advantages of clay & concrete tile roofs

Tiles are both strong and durable. Clay tiles can last over 100 years and concrete tiles will be good for up to 50 years. Tiles are not indestructible though and should be handled with care and will break if they fall from the roof. You should also avoid walking on tiles, to avoid cracking them. With strength and durability comes weight, and this makes clay and concrete tiles an unsuitable choice if your building structure is weak or lightweight.

Both clay roofing tiles and concrete roofing tiles have excellent weather-resistant and fire-resistant properties. Because concrete is more porous than clay, a concrete-tiled roof can get a build-up of moss over time, particularly if shaded. Treatments can be applied to the roof to minimise this, and if it does occur the tiles should be cleaned periodically. Other than this, tiled roofs require very little maintenance, and if they are damaged by storms etc,. they are relatively simple to repair.

Tiled roofing specialists

If choosing a new roof, tiles may not be the cheapest option initially, but their low maintenance requirements and longevity make them and good investment over time, and their attractive appearance will add to the overall desirability of your property.

Slate roofs

Slate has been used as a roofing material for centuries, and is commonly found on older building around the Doncaster area and across South Yorkshire.

Advantages of slate roofs

Slate is available in a range of colours, but as it is a totally natural material, no two tiles are identical which adds to its charm. A slate roof is not the cheapest option but certainly has a timeless quality.

Slate is a particularly hard-wearing material, and if installed correctly a slate roof with certainly stand the test of time. Slate has very low porosity, so should not be affected greatly by moss or lichen, and is fire-resistant.

Slate tiles require a sufficiently strong roof structure to support them, and can be damaged if dropped, or walked on.

Slate roofing specialists

Not all roofers have worked with slate but our many years of experience have made us experts in installing and repairing slate roofs, so if you are thinking of having a slate roof installed, or need a slate roof repairing, then give us a call.

Gutters, fascias & soffits

Generally people do not know what fascias and soffits are… your fascia board is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. The soffit board is tucked away under the fascia board. The soffit can be ventilated to allow the flow of air into the roof area as without good ventilation condensation can become a problem.

Gutters, fascias & soffits installation or repairs

We are expert installers of uPVC gutters, fascia and soffits. There are a wide range of colours and styles available to complement the style of your property.
